Less than an hour from Graz, in the Styrian countryside, a fairytale castle is being turned into a design laboratory. Schloß Hollenegg for Design is a non profit cultural project founded in 2015 by Alice Stori Liechtenstein. Aim of the project is to support both established and emerging designers as well as design culture.
Designers in Residence 2016
Stephanie Hornig, Lex Pott and Amaury Poudray will be the designers in residence for 2016. They will be spending time in Schloss Hollenegg over the summer and early autumn of 2016, working on the theme of Morphosis. The core idea is that change does not occur with a revolution, but it is more a matter of evolution. Organisms, inanimate objects, habits, cultures, all change one small step at the time, by adapting and morphing into something new, pushed in a direction by external agents. How can design influence this change? How can design morph us in a better society? They designers are free to work in any medium but will be inspired by the objects and the history of Schloss Hollenegg and will try and interpret the past to produce something meaningful and worthwhile for the future. The final projects will be presented in the rooms of Schloss Hollenegg in May 2017 (5.5.2017 to 8.5.2017) in a thematic exhibition. Another 15 designers will be invited to submit works that interpret the theme of Morphosis; many will show specially commissioned projects which will be presented to the public and the press in this occasion for the first time. Among the participants: Federico Floriani, Sabine Marcelis and Commonplace.
