Zeitgeist in Wool – Harald Geba and the Art of Carpets

For over 35 years, Harald Geba has been combining contemporary design with traditional carpet weaving in his gallery. He drew his inspiration in London – from auction houses, museums, and the vibrant art scene of the 1980s. Today, »Geba« carpets are produced in the highlands of Nepal, hand-knotted by Tibetan families with centuries of expertise. Fair trade certified, handmade, and grounded in genuine responsibility – for people, materials, and cultural heritage. Each carpet is more than a design object; it is a piece of living history.

Glad Senses – Design Between Digitality and Tradition

With the project »Glad Senses«, »Geba« teams up with Swiss architect Guy Lafranchi – and with an unusual material: recycled wind turbine blades. From these, a sculptural bench is created using digital manufacturing processes. The accompanying carpet is produced in »Geba’s« atelier – hand-knotted in close collaboration with Nepalese artisans. The interplay of the two objects demonstrates that sustainability is a matter of attitude, design, and technical innovation. At »Design in the City«, the bench and carpet are presented together – as a functional collector’s piece that bridges future and craft.

However, during Design Month Graz, the design tour »Kick-off Tour (English)«, taking place on 10 May 2025 at 12.30, will also make its way to »GEBA«. Take the opportunity to discover the artwork »Glad Senses« by Guy Lafranchi (not present), which will be presented during Design Month together with a carpet designed by Harald Geba, and meet the carpet dealer in person.
