Public spaces are essential for young people: they offer room to meet, move, experiment and exchange ideas. Yet in many places, suitable and appealing meeting points are lacking. Young people are often perceived as a disruptive presence in public spaces – and their perspectives are frequently overlooked in planning processes.
This is where JIMP comes in. Commissioned by the Regional Management of the Styrian Central Region, »Kampus Raumplanungs- und Stadtentwicklungs GmbH« and »Andrea Vattovani Architecture« developed a modular kit system: the JIMPs – Jugend. Info. Meeting. Points.
Co-designed by young people, for young people
Flexible, inviting, participatory – and above all, focused on the needs of young people. This is the guiding principle behind the JIMPs concept. Through workshops and discussions with young people, ideas emerged for a flexible system that creates high-quality, youth-friendly places to spend time in town and city centres, while also offering low-threshold access to reliable, youth-oriented information.
Design meets participation
The first 1:1 prototype will be presented to the public for the first time during Design Month Graz 2025 – a space for encounter, exchange and co-creation. The implementation is being carried out by »XTEC«. The JIMPs concept was developed as part of the project “Strong Centres in the Styrian Central Region 2024–2025” and is supported financially by the Styrian Regional Development Act 2018.
