As part of Design Month Graz 2025, Green Square – an agency for sustainable interior design – hosts two hands-on formats where visitors can get actively involved. Centred around natural materials, shared design processes and the question of how sustainability in design can be not only conceived but put into practice.

Creating a Moss Picture – Creativity for a Good Cause

A collective moss picture will be created from ball and forest moss in the CirculArt Materialhalle. All interested visitors are welcome to contribute to the making of this nature-based artwork during opening hours. Tools and a brief introduction will be provided; no prior experience is needed. Once completed, the artwork will be donated to an inclusive educational institution – combining creativity with social engagement and making design tangible as a tool for participation.

Open Wood Studio – Experience Craft, Understand Resources

The second workshop format invites visitors to the open wood studio to create a mosaic using Hjælmø, a sustainable end-grain wood material. The small wood blocks are offcuts from window frame production and save around 56% CO₂e compared to similar products. Participants can glue, sand and oil the blocks – experiencing first-hand how a durable solid wood floor is made.

Sustainable Design for the Architecture of Tomorrow

»Green Square« focuses on innovative materials and demonstrates how sustainable design can be applied in interior spaces. From furniture made of recycled plastic to acoustic panels crafted from upcycled materials – this is where aesthetics, functionality and environmental awareness come together.
