Silence is not an option. Not now. In their exhibition Rebel Prints, Lars Harmsen and Markus Lange, the artists behind Poster Rex, take a clear stance: Design is never neutral—it always reflects values and ideologies. Since founding their project over ten years ago, they have critically engaged with the pressing threats of our time. Their posters refuse to surrender the world to injustice, exemplifying how design can serve as a tool of protest. Through powerful messages and visual interventions, they confront us with the urgent need for action.
Against Populism
For Design Month Graz, Poster Rex has created a new series of posters as a response to populist propaganda. Their works challenge narratives that fuel fear and division, instead promoting solidarity and justice.
Live Performance
Resistance requires dialogue. Without open discussion and critical debate, democratic values erode. That’s why these posters will be printed live on stage. Harmsen and Lange have invited a group of students from FH JOANNEUM, along with artists from Ukraine, to join them in jam sessions where they will design and print posters together.
About Poster Rex
Poster Rex was founded in 2014 by Markus Lange and Lars Harmsen following a screen-printing workshop in Cuba. In the years that followed, the two designers conducted numerous printing sessions and workshops around the world, inviting local creatives to experiment with poster design. Working with set themes focused on politics, current affairs, and social issues, their project has always been about one thing: taking a stand. The result is a striking testament to the enduring power of creativity and the deeply human capacity for hope—often paired with a call to concrete action. Today, their collection includes over 3,000 unique posters, all screen-printed by hand.
