What stories can a building tell? What does its past smell like, what sounds does it carry within? In this two-day workshop, the Hornig Areal is explored not merely as a space, but as a living archive. Through a multisensory engagement with architecture, materiality and atmosphere, new perspectives on the built environment and memory emerge.
Memory, sound and identity of a place
Participants investigate how a building conveys its own story – through scents, sounds, structural features and imagined narratives. This raises questions about responsibility in the design of immersive spaces: What remains unheard? What unconscious layers of a place can be made visible?
Exhibition and presentation of the workshop results
On the final day of the workshop, held in cooperation with the »Industrial Design« degree programme at FH JOANNEUM, the resulting work will be presented in a physical and digital exhibition at the Hornig Areal. Possible outcomes range from auditory interpretations, podcasts or sonic impressions of the building to experimental narratives that make its personality and history tangible. The creative process itself will also be part of the exhibition, offering insights into the engagement with the site.
