The 4th »International Design Week« at the »Institute of Design & Communication« at FH JOANNEUM will take place under the title »unCOMMON underGROUND« as part of Design Month Graz 2025.
Design as a tool for questioning societal truths
The theme calls on us to challenge established ways of thinking: What do we consider shared truths, and what remains hidden or marginalised? The »International Design Week« explores how design can uncover concealed narratives, question dominant ideologies, and create spaces where the “ordinary” is disrupted or redefined.
In interdisciplinary workshops, participants engage with topics such as design and politics, media ethics, disinformation, and cultural exchange. The aim is to experiment with new creative approaches and reflect on the role of design in shaping and questioning societal structures.
Global perspectives and creative experiments
This year, the »Institute of Design & Communication« at FH JOANNEUM welcomes 22 international guest lecturers to the »International Design Week«, who will lead 16 transdisciplinary workshops for Bachelor’s and Master’s students, as well as international guest students. The workshops focus on communication, media, sound, interaction, and exhibition design.
The results of the four-day workshops will be presented on Friday, 16 May 2025 – offering insight into the creative engagement with the hidden layers of our reality.
