The West African organisation Global Mamas demonstrates how fair fashion production can succeed. Since 2004, it has combined environmental protection with the economic empowerment of women. Today, the network includes over 400 producers who create garments under fair conditions using GOTS-certified organic cotton.

Fashion with Impact

Feminine cuts, vibrant colours and hand-printed patterns characterise the collections by Global Mamas. But it’s about more than just style: the initiative is a member of the WFTO (World Fair Trade Organization) and places great importance on transparency – each garment is labelled with the name of the woman who made it. At Chic Ethic in Graz, the fashion is not only sold but also shared: Hélène and Andreas Reiter-Viollet personally visited the producers in Ghana and will report on their experiences as part of Design in the City.
