Design in the City is a format within Design Month Graz that integrates design into everyday city life beyond classic exhibitions. For 21 days, 20 shops in Graz’s city centre offer a platform for extraordinary products, innovative collections, and creative concepts. It is not only about the shopping experience, but about direct access to design, to the ideas and processes behind it.

Designers present their work directly in the shops and provide insights into how design shapes brand identities, supports sustainable product development, and opens up new perspectives on living environments. Visitors experience design as something that goes far beyond aesthetics: as a tool for innovation, conscious consumption, and the shaping of social change processes.

Whether fashion, furniture, jewellery, interior design, or material innovations – Design in the City showcases the diversity and relevance of design across a wide range of areas of life. The programme is complemented by guided tours with the GrazGuides, who offer a curated journey of discovery through the shops, providing background information on designers, concepts, and production methods.

As a UNESCO City of Design, Graz uses this format to make its vibrant local scene more visible and to promote dialogue between creatives, businesses, and visitors. Design in the City combines shopping with learning, experiencing with reflecting – and turns the city into an open stage for good design for 21 days.
