Design Month Graz 2023 ended on June 4, with over 130 program items taking place over 30 days. Over 110 program and project partners and guests from 13 nations brought the broad spectrum of design and the internationality of the network to life.
Now in its fourteenth year, Design Month Graz 2023 showcased the potential of the creative industries in Styria. With an extensive program and strong international participation from a total of 23 cities, the design festival offered an impressive presentation of the City of Design Graz, which attracted great attention both nationally and internationally.
Under the focus “Revolution”, the wide range of current revolutions was presented during Design Month Graz 2023. The focus was on the question of what contribution designers and creatives can make. Over the course of a month, many positive contributions from the creative industries were presented that point the way to a more sustainable future.
The design month was opened with revolutionary speeches in the center of Graz. The topics covered included architecture, industrial design, the circular economy and consumption. The exhibitions “Circular Culture” and “Wood Craft Design” addressed the topic of the circular economy under the subtitle “Circular what?” at Designforum Steiermark. The 10Rs of the circular economy strategy of the Federal Ministry for Climate Protection and the climate policy goals were made visible by means of concrete examples. Designers and carpentry businesses worked together to create marketable products from residual wood processing materials. In the Design Clinic and the new Digital Clinic, experts also offer free initial advice on design “emergencies” beyond Design Month. The website www.design-clinic.net enables direct contact. At “Design in the City“, 30 design-oriented stores presented products by national and international designers with a focus on ethical, resource-conserving and responsible production methods. Outside of Graz, interested visitors were also able to experience design at Schloss Hollenegg for Design and at “almfrische” in Trahütten.
